On June 16, 2023, Asteroid City will have a limited theatrical release, and on June 23, it will expand to more theaters. The premiere of the film is planned for the Cannes Film Festival.
Asteroid City takes place in a strange American desert town in the 1950s.

Hanks plays the grandfather to Jason Schwartzman’s four kids, and the plot revolves around their visit with him.
‘In my loneliness, I’ve learned to give complete and unquestioning faith to the people I love,’ Hanks’ character tells Schwartzman’s. ‘I don’t know if that includes you, but it included my daughter and your four children.’
After experiencing car trouble, they decide to take the vehicle to Asteroid City to have it fixed.
The city’s annual junior stargazer competition has captivated his son, played by Jake Ryan.
The family is quickly drawn into the city, despite initial reservations.
Tilda Swinton, Matt Dillon, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, and Liev Schreiber also star in the film alongside Tom’s wife Rita Wilson.
Also appearing are Hope Davis, Stephen Park, and Rupert Friend.
The quirky film also features Maya Hawke, the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke.
Additionally featured are Steve Carell, Willem Dafoe, Tony Revolori, Grace Edwards, Aristou Meehan, Sophia Lillis, Ethan Lee, and Jeff Goldblum.
Anderson has an extensive filmography full of offbeat works. The French Dispatch, The Royal Tennenbaums, and Moonrise Kingdom are among them.
In 2023, he’ll direct a film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.
Anderson and Roman Coppola co-wrote Asteroid City.
Anderson’s regular working partners, Jeremy Dawson and Steven Rales of Indian Paintbrush, produced the film.
The film was co-produced by John Peet and Octavia Peissel, with Christoph Fisser and Henning Molfenter serving as executive producers.
